US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Marketside Green Beans & Butternut Squash Recall [US]Southern Specialties Inc., a Pompano Beach, Florida establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Marketside branded Green Beans and Marketside branded Butternut Squash due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risk of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Green Beans and Butternut Squash products are subject to this recall:

  • Marketside branded Bagged Green Beans, sold in 32-ounce (2-pound / 907 gram) plastic bags with a best-if-used-by date code of MAR-9-2019, batch/lots of 83931-123 or 83939-124 and a UPC of 681131457385
  • Marketside branded Bagged Green Beans, sold in 12-ounce (340 gram) plastic bags with a best-if-used-by date code of MAR-8-2019, batch/lots of 83928-628 or 83932-123 and a UPC of 681131328869
  • Marketside branded Bagged Butternut Squash, sold in 16-ounce (one-pound / 454 gram) plastic bags with a best-if-used-by date code of MAR-6-2019, batch/lots of 83940-319 or 83940-139 and a UPC of 681131122351

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, this recall was initiated after a primary supplier of raw material notified the company that it was issuing a recall after a routine test of a food contact surface tested positive for the bacterium.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Green Beans and Butternut Squash, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the vegetables to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
