US FlagUS/Washington: Publix Super Market Popcorn Chicken Recall [US]Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation, a Mount Pleasant, Texas establishment, recalls an estimated 58,020 pounds of not-ready-to-eat (“NRTE”) breaded Popcorn Chicken products due to suspected rubber fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Chicken products are subject to this recall:

  • Uncooked Popcorn Style Chicken Breast Chunk Fritters with Rib Meat, 20-pound boxes containing eight (8) clear bags with a use-by date code of 10 01 2019 and batch/lot codes of 9004101012, 9004101013, 9004101014, 9004101015, 9004101016, 9004101017, 9004101018, 9004101019, 9004101020, 9004101021, 9004101022, 9004101000 or 9004101001

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, the Chicken products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-7091A” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to Publix Super Markets in Florida for deli food service use.

The problem was discovered on Jan. 30, 2019 when the company was informed by Publix Super Markets’ employees about a consumer complaint regarding white rubber fragments in the products.

In general, if plastic or rubber fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Popcorn Chicken products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store or wholesale outlet where you purchased it for a full refund.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) is concerned that some Chicken product may be frozen and in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase
