US FlagUS/Washington: Perdue Foods Chicken Nugget Recall [US]Perdue Foods LLC, a Perry, Georgia establishment, recalls an estimated 68,244 pounds of ready-to-eat Chicken Nugget products due to suspected wood fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following ready-to-eat Chicken Nugget products were produced on October 25, 2018 are subject to this recall:

  • Perdue SimplySmart Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets Gluten Free, sold in 22-ounce plastic bag packages with a best-by date 10/25/19 and UPC of 72745-80656

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, the product subject to recall bears establishment number “P-33944” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The problem was discovered when the firm received three consumer complaints that wood was found in the product. A complaint was also reported to FSIS’ consumer complaint monitoring system. FSIS was notified by the firm on Jan. 17, 2019.

Please note: due to the Trump Administration’s partial shutdown of several agencies within the US government, communication of this notification has been significantly delayed.

In general, if wood fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Chicken Nugget products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
