Canada/Ottawa: Cape Breton Coal Candy Recall [Canada]Cape Breton Fudge Co., a Sydney, Nova Scotia establishment, recalls all current batch/lots of Cape Breton Coal Candy due to undeclared Walnuts, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”), the following Candy products are subject to this recall:

  • Cape Breton Fudge Co. branded Cape Breton Coal Candy, sold in 45 gram clear plastic bags with a black label.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CFIA, reports that Cape Breton Fudge Co. has recalled all current batch/lots of Cape Breton Coal Candy from the Canadian marketplace because they contain Walnuts, an allergen not declared on the label. People with an allergy to Walnuts should not consume the recalled product identified above.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Cape Breton Coal Candy products and could be allergic to their Walnut ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
