Canada/Ottawa: Logo - Portofino European Bakery Portofino Bakery Ltd., a Victoria, British Columbia establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Portofino European Bakery brand Gluten Free Almond Stollen due to undeclared Wheat, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Almond Stollen Pastry Bread products are subject to this recall:

  • Portofino European Bakery branded Gluten Free Almond Stollen, sold in 700 gram packages with batch/lots designations of BB DEC 26, BB DEC 27 or BB DEC 28 and UPCs of 6 61172 02077 9 or 6 61172 01002 2. Stollen is a fruit bread of nuts, spices, and dried or candied fruit, coated with powdered sugar or icing sugar. It is a traditional German bread eaten during the Christmas season.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CFIA, Portofino Bakery has recalled certain batch/lots of Portofino European Bakery brand Gluten Free Almond Stollen Pastry Bread products due to undeclared Wheat.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Almond Stollen Bread Pastry Bread products and could be allergic to their Wheat ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
