Canada/Ottawa: Eat Smart branded Salad Shake Up Recall [Canada]The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”), an Ottawa, Ontario regulatory and food safety authority, expands its existing recall for certain batch/lots of Eat Smart branded Salad Shake Ups to include additional related Salad products. The original recall was initiated due to suspected risk of Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risk of Gram-positive bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following prepared Salad products are subject to this recall:

  • Eat Smart branded Salad Shake Ups – Avocado Ranch flavour, sold in 143 gram clear plastic bowls with a best-before date code of DEC 14 2018, a batch/lot code of DE 14 112 331 and a UPC of 7 09351 30195 7
  • Eat Smart branded Salad Shake Ups – Raspberry Açaí flavour, sold in 143 gram clear plastic bowls with a best-before date code of DEC 14 2018, a batch/lot code of DE 14 112 331 and a UPC of 7 09351 30196 4
  • Eat Smart branded Salad Shake Ups – Sweet Kale flavour, sold in 156 gram clear plastic bowls with a best-before date code of DEC 14 2018, a batch/lot code of DE 14 112 331 and a UPC of 7 09351 30243 5

The original notification called for the following Salad products to be recalled:

  • Eat Smart branded Salad Shake Ups – Sweet Kale flavour, sold in 156 gram clear plastic bowls with a best-before date code of DEC 03 2018, a batch/lot code of DE 03 112 319 and a UPC of 7 09351 30243 5

According to the CFIA, it has recalled certain batch/lots of Eat Smart brand Salad Shake Ups from the Canadian marketplace due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Salad products identified above,

==> For information about Listeriosis (Listeria poisoning), please consult the “Illnesses” tab on this site, located at the top of this page.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Eat Smart branded Salad Shake Ups, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
