US FlagUS/Washington: Jimmy Dean Sausage Link Recall [US]CTI Foods LLC, an Owingsville, Kentucky establishment, recalls an estimated 29,028 pounds of frozen, ready-to-eat (“RTE”) Jimmy Dean Heat ‘n Serve Original Sausage Links made with Pork & Turkey Sausage products due to suspected risk of metal fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Sausage products were produced and packaged on August 4, 2018 and are subject to this recall:

  • Jimmy Dean branded Heat ‘n Serve Original Sausage Links made with Pork & Turkey Sausage products, sold in 23.4-ounce pouches with a use-by date of January 31, 19 a batch/lot case code of A6382168 and a time stamp ranging from 11:58 to 01:49.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, the Sausage products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 19085” on the back of the product packaging. These items were shipped to an establishment in Tennessee where the product was further distributed to retail stores.

The problem was discovered on December 10, 2018, when US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) received notification that the establishment had received five (5) consumer complaints of metal pieces in the Jimmy Dean branded Sausage links.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Sausages, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
