US FlagUS/Washington: Jennie-O Turkey Store Sales, LLC, a Barron, Wisconsin establishment, recalls 91,388 pounds of Raw Ground Turkey products due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risk of Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Raw Ground Turkey products are subject to this recall:

  • Jennie-O Ground Turkey 93% Lean | 7% Fat, sold in one (1) pound packages with use-by dates of 10/01/2018 and 10/02/2018
  • Jennie-O Taco Seasoned Ground Turkey, sold in one (1) pound packages with a use-by date of 10/02/2018
  • Jennie-O Ground Turkey 85% Lean | 15% Fat, sold in one (1) pound packages with a use-by date of 10/02/2018
  • Jennie-O Italian Seasoned Ground Turkey, sold in one (1) pound packages with a use-by date of 10/02/2018

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, the Ground Turkey products subject to recall bear establishment number “P-190” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations US nationwide.

The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety (“FSIS”), and its public health partners, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) and the Arizona Department of Health Services (“ADHS”), have been conducting traceback activities for a sample of Jennie-O brand Ground Turkey in an intact, unopened package from a case-patient’s home. The patient tested positive for Salmonella and the sample from the Ground Turkey matches the outbreak strain.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Raw Ground Turkey products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
