US FlagUS/Washington: Harris Teeter & Trader Joe's Burritos & Pizza Recall [US]Bakkavor Foods USA, Inc., a firm with establishments in Carson, California, Charlotte, North Carolina and Jessup, Pennsylvania recalls an estimated 795,261 pounds of Ready-To-Eat Meat and Poultry products due to suspected risk of Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella contamination with consequential risk of Gram-positive bacterial infection and Gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Ready-To-Eat Meat and Poultry products are subject to this recall:

  • Harris Teeter Fresh Foods Market Deli-Bakery brand BBQ Style Chicken Artisan Pizza, sold in 16-ounce plastic-wrapped, paperboard sleeve packages with use-by dates from 01/07/19 through 04/11/19
  • Harris Teeter Fresh Foods Market Deli-Bakery branded Chicken Sausage, Egg White and Cheese Breakfast Burrito, sold in 8-ounce butcher-paper wrapped packages with a use-by dates ranging from 01/24/18 through 10/25/18.
  • Harris Teeter Fresh Foods Market Deli-Bakery branded Bacon, Egg And Cheese Burritos, sold in 8-ounce butcher-paper wrapped packages with a use-by dates ranging from 01/24/18 through 10/25/18.
  • Trader Joe’s branded Carnitas With Salsa Verde Burrito, sold in 10-ounce butcher-paper wrapped packages with a use-by dates ranging from 10/08/17 through 10/24/18.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail and/or wholesale presentation. Additional images of the recalled Burrito and Pizza products can be found on the Web site above.

According to the USDA, the products subject to recall bear establishment numbers “EST. 19198”, “P-19198”, “EST. 46937” or “EST. 45335” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations US nationwide.

The problem was discovered on October 16, 2018, when Bakkavor Foods USA, Inc. received notification that the Onion used in the production of its ready-to-eat Meat and Poultry products was being recalled by its onion supplier due to Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella concerns. If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Burrito and Pizza products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
