East Trading Corp., a Bronx, New York establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Fruits Du Sud Golden Seedless Raisins due to undeclared Sulfites, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Seedless Raisins are subject to this recall:

  • Fruits Du Sud Golden Seedless Raisins, sold in 30-pound boxes with a country of origin designation of South Africa, a production date of April 2018 and a batch/lot code of FDS T499/18

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, the recall was initiated after routine sampling by the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis by the Department’s Food Laboratory Personnel revealed the presence of Sulfites in the product, which were not declared on the label.

The consumption of 10 mg of Sulfites per serving has been reported to elicit severe reactions in some people with Asthma. Anaphylactic shock could occur in certain Sulfite-sensitive individuals upon ingesting 10 mg or more of the allergen. Analysis of the Fruits Du Sud Golden Seedless Raisins revealed they contained 16 mg per serving.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Seedless Raisins and could be allergic to their Sulfite ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
