Canada/Ottawa: Stinger branded Insect Zapper Recall [Canada]Kaz Canada, Inc., a Mississauga, Ontario establishment, recalls an estimated 15,840 Stinger branded Insect Zappers due to suspected component detachment and consequential risk of electric shock, burns and property damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

Additional information:
Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports this recall involves certain Stinger 3-in-1 Insect Zappers (Canadian models BK310CV1 and BK311CV2).

  • The recalled electric Insect Zappers are black or grey in colour, stand vertically and measure approximately 19 inches tall by approximately 6 inches wide not including the required extension cord. The recalled models have codes ending in “YTG” with the phrase “Made in China” printed on the silver label on the bottom of each Insect Zapper, as follows:
    • Stinger 3-in-1 Insect Zapper, sold with a model designation of BK310CV1 (code CLG310YTG), date stamp codes 28617, 29317 or 34917 and a UPC of 0 42578 10310 3
    • Stinger 3-in-1 Insect Zapper, sold with a model designation of BK311CV2 (code CLG311YTG), a date stamp code of 01918 and a UPC of 0 42578 00311 3

According to Health Canada, the insect kill grid inside each Insect Zapper can detach inside the housing, posing an electric shock hazard to people in the immediate vicinity. The shock could be minor to serious depending on the area touched and external circumstances (i.e., wet conditions). At the time of this notification, no injuries had been reported.

An estimated 15,840 Insect Zappers were sold at various retailers in Canada including Canadian Tire, Home Hardware, Lowes and Rona.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Insect Zappers, please do not use them. Instead, kindly unplug them, and contact Kaz Canada to return the product for a full refund.
