Australia FlagAustralia/Canberra: Spice Factor Heshmi Surma Eyeliner Recall [Australia]The Spice Factory Pty Ltd, a Morisset, New South Wales establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Heshmi Surma Eyeliner / Kohl due to suspected high concentration of Lead and consequential risk of muscle pain, fatigue, abdominal pain, headache, nausea/vomiting, seizures and coma with Acute Lead poisoning as well as irritability, lack of energy, loss of appetite, learning disabilities, behavioural problems, poor coordination and impaired growth with Chronic Lead poisoning, all serious health hazards.

The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (“ACCC”) reports the following Eyeliner / Kohl products are subject to this recall:

  • Heshmi Surma Eyeliner / Kohl, consisting of a blister pack of powdered eyeliner/kohl in a small bottle with blue cardboard backing. The recalled Eyeliner products are intended to be applied around the eyes using a small (included) wand.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, APNs or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the ACCC, this recall was initiated due to high concentrations of Lead. Exposure to Lead can result in acute (short term) and chronic (long term) damage and both adults and children can be affected. The symptoms are most severe in children and babies of women exposed while they were pregnant. Damage from Lead poisoning can occur after a single exposure.

Symptoms of acute Lead poisoning include muscle pain, fatigue, abdominal pain, headache, nausea/vomiting, seizures and coma.

Symptoms of chronic Lead poisoning include irritability, lack of energy, loss of appetite, learning disabilities, behavioural problems, poor coordination and impaired growth.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm cosmetics poisoning or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any cosmetics, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household rubbish, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect product.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Eyeliner / Kohl products, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. If you have used the product, immediately wash any area of your body that has been exposed to the product with hot running water and lots of soap, particularly near the eyes.
