US FlagUS/Washington: Olufela Yemitan Smoked Siluriformes Fish Recall [US]Olufela Yemitan, the Importer of Record, a Houston, Texas firm, has recalled an estimated 45 pounds of Smoked Siluriformes Fish product due to suspected failure to present at the US point of entry for inspection and consequential risk of bacterial contamination, all serious health and safety hazards.

Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Siluriformes Fish are subject to this recall:

  • Dried, Smoked Siluriformes Fish sold as “Picante Fishes Spicy Catfish Smoked with Tomatoe Pepper Sauce Ready To Eat Now!!!!!” sold in one-pound plastic-wrapped packages with a manufacturing date of MFD: 8/2018 and a best-buy designation of BB: 2/2019 printed on the label.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, the products were imported from Nigeria, a country that is not eligible to export Siluriformes Fish to the United States. These items were shipped to retail distribution locations in Texas.

The problem was discovered on August 28, 2018 by US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) through routine monitoring of eligibility of imported products.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Siluriformes Fish, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
