US FlagUS/Washington: Van's Kitchen branded Pork Egg Roll Recall [US]Van Oriental Foods Inc., a Dallas, Texas establishment, recalls an estimated 10,385 pounds of heat treated but not fully cooked and not shelf stable Van’s Kitchen branded Pork Egg Rolls due to suspected risk of Plastic Fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Pork Egg Roll products are subject to this recall:

  • Van’s Kitchen branded Egg Rolls Pork Grab and Go, sold in 5.4-ounce packages each containing two (2) rolls with a batch/lot code of 18150, a Julian date designation of 18150A and various “FRESHNESS DATE/BEST IF USED BY” dates.

The recalled Pork Egg Rolls were produced on May 30, 2018. The products have a shelf life of 12 months if frozen and 11 days if refrigerated.

According to the USDA, the Pork Egg Rolls subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 13219” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The problem was discovered after the firm received two (2) consumer complaints stating that a thin thread of plastic was found in the Egg Roll products.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.
