Flowers Foods, Inc., a Thomasville, Georgia, establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Baker’s Treat, Food Lion, Great Value, H-E-B, Market Square and Mrs. Freshley’s branded Swiss Rolls and Captain John Derst’s branded Old Fashioned Bread due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risk of gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Swiss Roll and Bread products are subject to this recall (in alphabetical order):

  • Baker’s Treat – 6 count / 13 ounce packages sold with batch/lot ranging from 09/21/18 through 09/28/18 and a UPC of 041498188382
  • Captain John Derst’s Old Fashioned Bread sold with batch/lots ranging from 07/16/18 to 7/28/18 and a UPC of 071316001180
  • Food Lion – 6 count / 13 ounce packages sold with a batch/lot of 10/16/18 and a UPC of 035826092779
  • Great Value – 6 count / 13 ounce packages sold with batch/lots ranging from Sep 17 2018 to Sep 25 2018 309 8191 B and a UPC of 078742147550
  • H-E-B – 6 count / 12 ounce packages sold with a batch/lot of 09/19/18 and a UPC of 041220296583
  • Market Square – 6 count / 12 ounce packages sold with a batch/lot of 309 8194 B and a UPC of 087381760556
  • Mrs. Freshley’s – 4 count / 7.2 ounce packages sold with batch/lots from 10/09/18 to 10/19/18, 309 8187 A 75 D , 309 8187 B 75 D, 309 8190 C 75 D, 309 8194 B 75 D and 309 8194 C 75 D and a UPC of 072250011907
  • Mrs. Freshley’s – 6 count / 12 ounce packages sold with a batch/lot of 10/14/18 309 8194 B 75 D and a UPC of 072250903233

According to the FDA, Flowers Foods has recalled certain Swiss Rolls sold under the Baker’s Treat, Food Lion, Great Value, H-E-B, Market Square and Mrs. Freshley’s branded Swiss Rolls and Captain John Derst’s Old Fashioned Bread distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, due to the potential presence of Salmonella in an ingredient, whey powder.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Baked Goods, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Baked Goods to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
