The UK Food Standards Agency (“FSA”) reports the following Apricot Kernels are subject to recall:

  • Health Leads branded Bitter Apricot Kernels, sold in 150 gram packages with a batch/lot designation of 00818 and a best-before of 01/2019
  • Health Leads branded Bitter Apricot Kernels, sold in 150 gram packages with a batch/lot designation of 12018 and a best-before of 03/2019
  • Health Leads branded Bitter Apricot Kernels, sold in 500 gram bottles with a batch/lot designation of 04418 and a best-before of 02/2019
  • Health Leads branded Bitter Apricot Kernels, sold in 500 gram bottles with a batch/lot designation of 011418 and a best-before of 04/2019

==> No barcodes, UPCs, EANs or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FSA, Health Leads UK Ltd has recalled certain batch/lots of Bitter Apricot Kernels because they contain high levels of Hydrocyanic Acid (Cyanide).

Taking quantities of the recalled Bitter Apricot Kernel products could lead to high levels of Hydrocyanic Acid (Cyanide) being consumed. Consumption of Hydrocyanic Acid (Cyanide) can lead to acute toxicity in some individuals. Symptoms of acute toxicity include headache, dizziness, mental confusion, stupor and cyanosis with twitching and convulsions. Acute toxicity can be fatal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Bitter Apricot Kernels, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Apricot Kernels to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
