US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Rad branded Cat Food Recall [US]Radagast Pet Food, Inc. a Portland, Oregon establishment has recalled an estimated three batch/lots of Rad Cat branded Cat Food due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination and consequential risk of gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

As well, the company has recalled a different variety of Rad branded Cat Food due to suspected Shiga Toxin producing E. coli O121 (“STEC”) and consequential risk of gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Cat Food products are subject to this recall:

  • Rad Cat Raw Diet Free-Range Chicken Recipe, sold in 8-ounce plastic tubs (with a UPC of 8 51536 00103 6), 16-ounce tubs (with a UPC of 8 51536 00104 3) and 24-ounce tubs (with a UPC of 8 51536 00105 0) with the following batch/lot codes and best-by dates:
    • Batch/lot code 63057 with a best-by date of 10/9/2019
    • Batch/lot code 63069 with a best-by date of 10/23/2019*
    • Batch/lot code 63076 with a best-by date of 10/31/2019*
  • Rad Cat Raw Pasture-Raised Venison Recipe, sold in 8-ounce plastic tubs (with a UPC of 8 51536 00103 6), 16-ounce tubs (with a UPC of 8 51536 00122 7) and 24-ounce tubs (with a UPC of 8 51536 00123 4) with the following batch/lot codes and best-by dates:
    • Batch/lot code 63063 with a best-by date of 10/15/2019

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA,Radagast Pet Food initiated this recall after the Rad Cat Raw Diet Free-Range Chicken Recipe Cat Food products tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes and the Rad Cat Raw Diet Pasture-Raised Venison Recipe because testing results found it may be contaminated with Shiga Toxin producing E. coli O121 (“STEC”).

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Pet Foods, please do not feed them to your pet(s). Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. Wash down all prep surfaces, serving implements and serving bowls with a bleach/water mixture; rinse well with lots of hot soapy water.

==> Please note: both Listeria monocytogenes and Shiga Toxin producing E. coli O121 (“STEC”) can cause bacterial infection, illness and life-changing health consequences in humans and may cause illness in pets. This means infected pets can become vectors for these illnesses within your home and may spread these infections inside and outside your immediate family and/or home setting.
