Canada/Ottawa: The Butcher's Blend Ground Beef Recall [Canada]The Butcher’s Blend, a Brantford, Ontario establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Extra Lean Ground Beef products due to suspected Escherichia coli (“E.coli”) contamination and consequential risk of gram-negative bacterial infection, severe illness and/or possible life-changing complications, all serious health hazards.

Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Ground Beef products are subject to this recall:

  • Unbranded Extra Lean Ground Beef, sold in one (1) pound packages (approximate weight) by The Butcher’s Blend at the Western Fair District Farmer’s Market on June 16, 2018 with no UPC attached
  • Mitchell’s Butcher’s Blend / Old East Village Grocer branded Extra Lean Ground Beef, sold in one (1) pound packages (approximate weight) with a best-before date code of JUN 23/18 and a UPC that begins with 0 200150
  • Mitchell’s Butcher’s Blend / Old East Village Grocer branded Extra Lean Ground Beef, sold in one-half (1/2) pound packages (approximate weight) with a best-before date code of JUN 23/18 and a UPC that begins with 0 200150

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CFIA, The Butcher’s Blend has recalled certain batch/lots of Extra Lean Ground Beef products from the Canadian marketplace due to possible E. coli O157 contamination. You should neither serve nor consume the recalled Ground Beef products identified above.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Ground Beef products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
