Canada/Ottawa: Home Hardware BBQ Igniter Lighter Recall [Canada]Canadian Tire Corporation, Ltd., a Toronto, Ontario establishment, recalls an estimated 52,596 Master Chef BBQ Igniter Lighters due to suspected failure to comply with the Lighters Regulations in Canada and consequential risk of fire and/or burn damage, all serious health and safety hazards.

Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports this recall involves certain Master Chef BBQ Igniter Lighters.

  • The recalled Canadian Tire Master Chef BBQ Igniter Lighters are refillable, feature an adjustable flame height and are approximately 285 mm long with a grey handle and black barrel. They are sold with a Canadian Tire product number of 076-2044, a batch/lot number of AD6523/G35J, a date of manufacture of 2016-02-01 and a UPC of 645990215739

According to Health Canada, its sampling and evaluation program has determined that the recalled Utility Gas Lighters do not meet the Lighters Regulations in Canada and may pose a fire or burn hazard. Specifically the lighters:

  • may exceed the allowable flame height during ignition;
  • may exhibit an abnormal, sudden increase in flame height; and
  • may continue to burn after the trigger mechanism has been released.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Utility Gas Lighters, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
