US FlagUS/Atlanta: Kellogg'sHoney Smacks Cereal Recall Update [US]The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”), an Atlanta, Georgia health and wellness regulatory authority, is currently investigating a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella Mbandaka infections linked to Kellogg’s Honey Smacks Breakfast Cereal, a serious health hazard.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now warns consumers they should not eat Kellogg’s Honey Smacks Cereal of any size package with any best-if-used-by date.

The CDC, public health and regulatory officials in several states, as well as the US Food and Drug Administration are currently investigating a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella Mbandaka, a source of gram-negative bacterial infection.

As of the date of this warning, a total of 73 people are known to have been infected with the outbreak strain.have been reported from 31 states with 24 people hospitalized. No deaths are known to have been reported.

According to the CDC, epidemiologic evidence indicates that Kellogg’s Honey Smacks Cereal is a likely source of this multi-state outbreak. Consequently, you should neither serve nor consume this Cereal product in any form.

If you have removed the Cereal from its original box and placed it into storage containers, please dispose of the product and scrub all contaminated surfaces, serving dishes and your hands with lots of hot soapy water.

If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Breakfast Cereal products, please do not consume it directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Cereal to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
