US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Melissa’s branded Spicy Edamame Recall [US]World Variety Produce, Inc. a Los Angeles, California establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Melissa’s branded Spicy Edamame products due to undeclared Crustacean and Shellfish, both known allergens, sources of dietary intolerance and possible triggers of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Edamame products are subject to this recall:

  • Melissa’s branded Spicy Edamame, sold in 7-ounce packages with a protective cardboard sleeve, best-before dates ranging from 5/29/18 to 07/02/18 and a UPC of 0-45255-14637-0

According to the FDA, World Variety Produce has recalled certain batch/lots of its Melissa’s branded Spicy Edamame product due to undeclared Crustaceans and Shellfish allergens found in the “Oyster Extract” spicy sauce packet. if you have an allergy or severe sensitivity to Crustaceans and/or Shellfish you should neither serve nor consume this product.

This Spicy Edamame product was distributed through retailers in Arizona, California, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Spicy Edamame products and could be allergic to their Crustacean and/or Shellfish ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
