US FlagUS/Silver Spring: Watan Dry Fruits brand Apricot Recall [US]Global Commodities, Inc., a Hicksville, New York establishment, recalls certain batch/lots of Watan Dry Fruits brand Natural Dried Apricots, due to undeclared Sulfites, a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention.

The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Dried Apricots are subject to this recall:

  • Watan Dry Fruits brand Natural Dried Apricots, sold in one-half (0.5) pound clear plastic bags with an unlisted UPC
  • Watan Dry Fruits brand Natural Dried Apricots, sold in one (1) pound clear plastic bags with a UPC of 088247504666

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, the undeclared Sulfites were found as a result of routine product testing conducted by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. A subsequent investigation indicated the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging processes. Production of the product has been suspended until Global Commodities is certain that the problem has been corrected.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Dried Apricots and could be allergic to their Sulfite ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
