Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports this recall involves certain Panasonic Toughbooks Laptop Computers from Model Series CF-SX2 and CF-C2.

These Laptop Computers, made to withstand above average physical abuse, including multiple falls and adverse weather conditions, were sold in a silver coloured finish. The Computer’s model number can be found near the bottom left-hand corner of the monitor screen, as follows:

  • Model CF-SX2 Panasonic Toughbook Laptop Computers, an estimated 300 units were sold in Canada
  • Model CF-C2 Panasonic Toughbook Laptop Computers, an estimated 1723 units were sold in Canada

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s design and retail presentation. Additional images of the recalled Laptop Computers can be found on the Web site above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to Health Canada, the Laptop’s battery may spontaneously ignite during charging operation or after the battery is fully charged, resulting in a fire hazard.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Panasonic Laptop Computers, please do not use them. Instead, kindly download the BIOS utility to your Toughbook CF-SX2 Series and/or CF-C2 Series Laptop Computer from the Panasonic Canada Web site, to enable the “ECO/High Temp Laptop” mode. The company says this update will reduce the risk of battery ignition.

Panasonic Canada will also be providing a Toughbook software update at the end of May 2018, that will diagnose and control the state of the battery to avoid battery ignition. Panasonic says this Toughbook battery correction does not require battery replacements.
