The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Personal Care products are subject to this warning:

The following Medline Essentials No-Rinse Cleansing Foam items and lot numbers were voluntarily recalled by Shadow Holdings doing business as Bocchi Laboratories on March 28, 2018:

  • 4 ounce, item number MSC092FBC04; batch/lots M06691 and M07247
  • 8 ounce, item number MSC092FBC08; batch/lots M05703 and M06691

These products may be contaminated with Burkholderia cepacia complex (“BCC”) bacteria and there is consequential risk of severe patient infection.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, DINs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, it is advising health professionals and consumers alike to avoid using all batch/lots of Medline Remedy Essentials No-Rinse Cleansing Foam at this time.

Besides the above products, the Food and Drug Administration reports this is an ongoing investigation, additional products from Shadow Holdings doing business as Bocchi Laboratories might be contaminated as well.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”) reports there are now ten (10) confirmed cases of infection caused by bacteria within the Burkholderia cepacia complex, also commonly called B. cepacia, in three states: California (2), Pennsylvania (7) and New Jersey (1). These patients were already hospitalized for acute conditions and acquired the infections while hospitalized. The infections have been linked to the Medline product, Remedy Essentials No-Rinse Cleansing Foam.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm drug or medication adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

Health care professionals and patients should discard all recalled lots of Remedy Essentials No-Rinse Cleansing Foam. As the investigation continues, additional lots and additional products may be identified as potentially harmful. In the interim, facilities should avoid using all other lots of this product, particularly in patients at greater risk for B. cepacia infection, until further information is available.
