The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Smoked Sausage products are subject to this recall:

  • Carl’s Pork and Beef Smoked Sausage, sold in 30-pound cases with a sell-by date of 4/6/2019, a case code of PU1660 and a batch/lot code of 8096.
  • Dickey Cheese/Jalapeno Pork and Beef Sausage Ring, sold in 20-pound cases consisting of four (4) by five (5)-pound vacuum-packed packages with a sell-by date of 4/6/2019, a case code of PU1655 and a batch/lot code of 8096.
  • Dickey’s Barbeque Pit Original Smoked Fresh Polish Sausage Made with Pork and Beef, sold in 12-ounce vacuum-packed packages with a sell-by date 6/10/2018, a case code of PU1656 and a batch/lot code of 8096.
  • Eddy Fully Cooked Premium Smoked Sausage, sold in 2.5-pound vacuum-packed packages with a sell-by date of 6/29/2018, a case code of PU1642 and a batch/lot code of 8095.
  • Eddy Fully Cooked Premium Smoked Sausage, sold in 2.5-pound vacuum-packed packages with a sell-by date of 6/30/2018, a case code PU1663 and batch/lot code of 8096.
  • Eddy Smoked Sausage Made with Pork and Beef, sold in 10-pound cases with a sell-by date of 4/6/2019, a case code of PU1658 and a lot code of 8096.
  • Eddy Southern Style Pork and Beef Smoked Sausage, sold in 10-pound cases with a sell-by date of 4/6/2019, a case code of PU1659 and a batch/lot code of 8096.
  • Lowe’s Original Recipe Naturally Hardwood Smoked Sausage made with Pork and Beef, 40-ounce vacuum-packed packages with a sell-by date of 6/29/2018, a case code of PU1644 and a batch/lot code of 8095.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, the Smoked Sausage products subject to recall bear establishment number “EST. 4800” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to food service and retail locations in California, Georgia, Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

The problem was discovered after the company received complaints from a restaurant that pieces of white, hard plastic were found embedded in the Sausage during slicing.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) has received no additional reports of injury or illness from consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Smoked Sausage products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
