Mother Africa Pure Red & Zomi Palm Oil Recall [UK]

Additional information:
The UK Food Standards Agency (“FSA”) reports the following Palm Oils are subject to recall:

  • Mother Africa Pure Red Palm Oil, sold in 2.0 litre bottles with a best-before date of 01 April 2020 and a batch/lot code of VT 261017A
  • Mother Africa Zomi Palm Oil, sold in 1.0 litre bottles with a best-before date of 01 June 2020 and a batch/lot code of VT 171117SZ

==> No barcodes, UPCs, EANs or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FSA, Surya Foods has recalled the above-indicated batch/lots of Mother Africa Pure Red Palm Oil and Mother Africa Zomi Palm Oil because they contain the illegal dye Sudan IV. This dye is potentially genotoxic and carcinogenic so cannot be used in food preparation, storage or any other part of the UK food chain. Sudan dyes are red dyes that are legally used in industrial applications in the UK.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household rubbish, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Palm Oils, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
