According to the FDA, this recall was initiated after it was discovered that the apricots used in the recalled Energy Bars contain Sulfur Dioxide as a preservative, and the packaging did not reflect the presence of this chemical precursor to Sulfites.

Aspire Food Group recently acquired full rights to the EXO brand, including product recipes, from Exo, Inc. As part of its audit of Exo, Inc’s recipes, our manufacturing team identified this labeling error. All warehoused products that were manufactured after February 23, 2018 will be reconditioned to declare Sulfites. All recalled products manufactured prior to February 23, 2018 will be destroyed, in addition to any product returned from customers regardless of manufacture date.

==> For information about Sulfite/Sulphite Allergy, please consult the “Allergens & Intolerances” tab on this site, located at the top of this page.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Protein Bars and could be allergic to their Sulfite ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
