According to the ACCC, the battery compartment on the recalled Thermometers is not adequately secured, allowing access to the “button” batteries inside. If infants or young children gain access to the button batteries and ingest them, they may suffer internal burn injuries. This in turn, can result in serious illness and even death or permanent injury. In addition, the batteries may pose a choking hazard to young children who inhale them.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession the recalled Digital Thermometers, please do not use them nor store them in an area where a child could gain access to them. Instead, kindly return the product to the following reply-paid address for a full refund:

==> Small “button” batteries pose special ingestion risks to small children. Devices using them in the home or school should be closely examined and monitored for any breakage or other unintended access that could allow these batteries to be swallowed or otherwise ingested.
