The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Chia Seeds are subject to this recall:

  • Oregon Food Bank Chia Seed, sold in one (1) pound plastic poly film bags with a twist-type closure or a resealable pouch

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Chia Seeds can be found on the Web site above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, the recalled Chia Seeds were distributed in Oregon and Clark County, Washington through the Oregon Food Bank Network of regional food banks and participating food pantries. The product was distributed in one (1) pound plastic poly film bags with a twist-type closure or a resealable pouch. All Chia Seeds distributed in the described packaging between November 1, 2017 and March 9, 2018 are included in this recall.

In general, if bone, glass, metal, plastic, rubber or fecal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal. In addition, fecal fragments are likely to contain bacterial contamination that can lead to serious infection and/or life-changing illnesses.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
