The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Dog Treats are subject to this recall:

  • Smokehouse Pet Products branded Beefy Munchies Pet Treats, sold in a variety of individual bags, resealable bags and plastic tubs. The plastic tub will be labeled “Beefy Bites” but all sizes and packaging types will include a UPC code, lot number and a best-if-used-by date of stamped on the back.
  • Originally, this recall was limited to just the 4-ounce clear cello bags with a best used-by date code of 10/25/19, a batch/lot of 449294 and a UPC of 78565857957. The recalled Pet Treats were sold in Colorado, Michigan, North Carolina and Washington. The expansion of this recall means all current batch/lots and package sizes of this Dog Treat product are now affected by this recall.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the pet food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. All additional packages sizes and formats are also affected by this recall notification.

According to the FDA, this recall was originally initiated after routine sampling and testing by the Colorado Department of Agriculture found Salmonella in two 4-ounce packages of the Beefy Munchies Pet Treats.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Pet Foods, please do not feed them to your pet(s). Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund. Wash down all prep surfaces, serving implements and serving bowls with a bleach/water mixture; rinse well with lots of hot soapy water.
