Canada/Ottawa: Captain's Choice Shredded Coconut Recall [Canada]The Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalls certain batch/lots of Green Field, Captain’s Choice and Coconut Tree branded processed Coconut due to suspected Salmonella contamination and consequential risk of bacterial infection and illness, all serious health hazards. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following processed Shredded Coconut products are subject to this recall (in alphabetical order):

  • Captain’s Choice brand Shredded Coconut, sold in 454 gram (one pound) packages; affected batch/lots: all packages sold up to and including January 24, 2018 with a UPC of 8 934791 920105
  • Captain’s Choice brand Shredded Young Coconut, sold in 227 gram (one-half pound) packages; affected batch/lots: all packages sold up to and including January 24, 2018 with a UPC of 8 934791 920112
  • Coconut Tree brand Shredded Young Coconut, sold in 227 gram (one-half pound) packages; affected batch/lots: all packages sold up to and including January 24, 2018 with a UPC of 7 79139 06522 7
  • Green Field brand Frozen Shredded Young Coconut, sold in 227 gram (one-half pound) packages; affected batch/lots: all packages sold up to and including January 24, 2018 with a UPC of 7 12190 99714 4

According to the CFIA, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalls certain batch/lots of Captain’s Choice, Coconut Tree and Green Field branded processed Coconut due to suspected Salmonella contamination

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Shredded Coconut products, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
