The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Basic Drugs branded Senna Laxative products are subject to this recall:

  • Basic Drugs branded Senna Laxative, sold in 100-count 8.6 mg tablet bottles, with an outer neck seal and a child resistant cap, a batch/lot designation of 352300 and an expiry date of 01/19. The recalled batch/lot actually contains Basic Drugs Brand of Naproxen Sodium 220 mg tablets

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the FDA, unintentional consumption of Naproxen Sodium potentially could result in fatal adverse events in patients with underlying illnesses, including known allergy to the hidden ingredients, cardiac, gastrointestinal, hepatic, and renal conditions as well as patients who recently undergone cardiac bypass graft surgery.

People may inadvertently overdose by taking another NSAID concurrently with the recalled Laxative, therefore increasing the risk for NSAID associated adverse events, which include, but are not limited to, Myocardial Infarction, Stroke, Congestive Heart Failure, Renal Toxicity, Bleeding, Ulceration, or Perforation of the Stomach or the Intestines. The people most at risk of this recall include children, pregnant women, nursing mothers and surgical patients.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm drug poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any drug or medication, return it to your retailer for refund, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect product.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Senna Laxative tablets, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another preparation. Instead, return the Laxative to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
