Canada/Ottawa: Te Chang Food brand Bean Curd Recall Expands [Canada]The Canadian Food Inspection Agency expands its existing recall for certain batch/lots of Te Chang Food brand Towfu Bean Curd Cakes to include additional Tofu-based products. The original recall was initiated due to undeclared Peanuts and Sesame, both known allergens and sources of dietary intolerance and possible triggers of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention. Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Tofu/Bean Curd products are subject to this recall:

  • Te Chang Food branded Tofu Tranches – Saveur de Barbecue, sold in 350 gram pouches; affected batch/lots: all lot codes where Peanuts and Sesame are not declared on the label with a UPC of 4 710189 810203
  • Te Chang Food branded Satay Sauce Bean Curd, sold in 70 gram pouches; affected batch/lots: all lot codes where Peanuts and Sesame are not declared on the label with a UPC of 4 710189 041201

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CFIA, it has recalled certain batch/lots of Te Chang Food branded products from the marketplace because they contain Peanuts and Sesame, ingredients not declared on the product label. People with an allergy to Peanuts and/or Sesame should not consume the recalled product identified above.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Bean Curd products and could be allergic to their Peanuts and/or Sesame ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
