Additional information:
The United States Department of Agriculture (“USDA”) reports the following Pork and Beef Pepperoni products are subject to this recall:

  • Hempler’s Family Classic Pepperoni Sticks – Natural Smoke Flavoring Added, sold in 2.25-pound vacuum-packed packages with a packed-on date of 10/10/2017 and a case code 59716.

=> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the USDA, the Pepperoni subject to recall bears establishment number “EST. 6410” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were distributed for institutional use and shipped to retail locations in Eastern Washington.

The firm notified the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (“FSIS”) after receiving three (3) consumer complaints, reporting small metal pieces in the Pepperoni products.

In general, if plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure small children and pets can’t access the suspect food.
