The Washington Department of Health (“WDOH”) reports the following Pre-cut Fresh Fruit products are subject to this recall:

  • Pre-cut Fresh Fruit sold at in-store deli or other areas in Central Market, Fred Meyer, QFC and Rosauers Stores in Oregon and Washington states from October 25 to December 1, 2017, inclusive.

==> No barcodes, UPCs item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this food safety warning notification.

According to the WDOH, eighteen (18) people are known to have tested positive for Salmonella poisoning. These include the following Washington counties:

  • King County: five (5) persons
  • Mason County: one (1) person
  • Pierce County: one (1) person
  • Snohomish County: seven (7) persons
  • Thurston County: one (1) person
  • Yakima County: one (1) person

In addition, two (2) persons from Oregon have also been diagnosed with Salmonellosis.

The Washington DOH reports it is working with state and federal partner organizations to determine the source of the contaminated Fruit, including where it was cut and packaged, and if there may be additional retailers where the contaminated Fruit and/or other contaminated food products were sold.

==> For information about Salmonellosis (Salmonella poisoning), please consult the “Illnesses” tab on this site, located at the top of this page.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Pre-cut Fruit, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Fruit to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

If you believe you have already consumed or served any of the contaminated Fruit, wrap the remaining food in its original containers and place the container in a sealable plastic bag for possible further analysis. Wash your hands with hot soapy water and wash down all prep surfaces, serving implements and serving bowls with a bleach/water mixture; rinse well with lots of hot soapy water. If you or any member of your family develop signs and/or symptoms of Salmonella poisoning, please seek immediate medical attention on an urgent basis.
