The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Cheese Spread products are subject to this recall:

  • Merkts Port Wine Spreads sold in 14-ounce tubs, with a best-before date code of April 29, 2018, a plant code of LC2442A and a UPC of 76306 60200

According to the FDA, Bel Brands USA has recalled of Merkts Port Wine Cheese Spread sold nationwide with a production date code of “9-1-17” and a best-before date of 04-29-18 because “a few” consumers have reported finding small pieces of plastic in the product.

In general, if bone, glass, metal, plastic and/or rubber fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Cheese Spread, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Cheese Spread to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
