Canada/Ottawa: Hereford brand Chopped Ham Recall [Canada]Weddel Ltd. recalls certain batch/lots of Hereford brand Chopped Ham due to suspected risk of bone fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards. Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Ham products are subject to this recall:

  • Hereford brand Chopped Ham, sold in 340 gram cans with product codes of 06/26/2020, 08/13/2020 or 09/10/2020 and a UPC of 8 85512 90152 2

According to the CFIA, Weddel Ltd. has recalled the above-identified batch/lots of Hereford brand Chopped Ham due to suspected risk of bone fragment contamination.

In general, if bone or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
