The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Palm Oil is subject to this recall:

  • Ngoma brand Palm Oil, sold in 1 litre bottles with a UPC of 5 203423 700310

==> No best-before dates, batch/lots or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CFIA, it has recalled certain batch/lots of Ngoma brand Palm Oil due to Sudan IV contamination. Sudan IV is a fat-soluble dye used for the staining of some fats, specfically lipids, triglycerides and lipoproteins. It is considered unsafe to use Sudan IV in Canada and many other countries in any aspect of food production due to the chemical’s suspected cancer-causing properties.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Ngoma brand Palm Oil, please do not consume it directly nor use it as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
