Canada/Ottawa: Maple Lodge & Zabiha Halal Frankfurter Recall [Canada]Maple Lodge Farms Ltd. recalls certain batch/lots of Maple Lodge Farms brand Chicken Frankfurters and Zabiha Halal brand Chicken Frankfurters due to suspected risk of bone fragment contamination and consequential risk of choking, oral injury, internal ingestion and GI tract laceration damage, all serious health and safety hazards. Additional information:
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Chicken Frankfurters are subject to this recall:

  • Maple Lodge Farms brand Big Original Chicken Frankfurters, sold in 450 gram (approximately one pound) plastic-wrapped packages containing six (6) frankfurters with a batch/lot/product code of 2017.AU.27 and a UPC of 067714004205
  • Zabiha Halal brand Big Original Chicken Frankfurters, sold in 450 gram (approximately one pound) plastic-wrapped packages containing six (6) frankfurters with a batch/lot/product code of 2017.AU.27 and a UPC of 067714004236

According to the CFIA, Maple Lodge Farms Ltd. has recalled the above batch/lots of Maple Lodge Farms brand Chicken Frankfurters and Zabiha Halal brand Chicken Frankfurters due to suspected risk of bone fragment contamination. As of press time, one (1) injury has been reported.

In general, if plastic or bone fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
