Canada/Ottawa: Ducan Rubber Sundeck Coating Recall [Canada]Ducan Industries Ltd. recalls an estimated 50,000 Ducan Rubber Sundeck Coating Top-Cote Colour Coat due to suspected Lead in excess of allowable limits and consequential Anaemia as well as brain and nervous system damage, especially in children, all serious health and safety hazard. Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following Sundeck Coatings are subject to this recall:

  • Ducan brand Top-Cote Beige sold in 3.78 liter cans and a UPC of 062047512045
  • Ducan brand Top-Cote Beige sold in 9.46 liter buckets and a UPC of 062047512106
  • Ducan brand Top-Cote Grey sold in 3.78 liter cans and a UPC of 062047511048
  • Ducan brand Top-Cote Grey sold in 9.46 liter buckets and a UPC of 062047511109

Please note: all Coatings above were sold with batch/lot numbers starting with 06 through 11. The first two (2) digits of the batch numbers on the products represent the year the product was manufactured. For example, if the Coating was produced in the year 2009, this code would be 09.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the products’ packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Coatings is pictured on the Web site above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to Health Canada, this recall was initiated after Ducan Industries identified that the recalled products contained Lead in excess of allowable limits.

Under the Surface Coating Materials Regulations of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act, it is illegal to import, advertise or sell a surface coating material that contains more than 90 mg/kg total Lead. The chemical Lead is highly toxic, especially to children in part because a wide range of serious health effects have been associated with exposure to the chemical. These deleterious effects including Anaemia (a deficiency of red blood cells) as well as brain and nervous system damage.

As of the time of this recall, Ducan Industries has received one (1) report of the affected products containing excessive Lead content in Canada.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Ducan Rubber Sundeck Coating Top-Cote Colour Coat, please do not use them or handle them. Instead, immediately dispose of the recalled product in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements taking care to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (“PPE”) such as a mask and gloves.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Ducan Rubber Sundeck Coating Top-Cote Colour Coat, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm Lead poisoning or contamination. Disposal of this product must be in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements to protect your personal safety, the local drinking water supply and the ecosystem.
