The UK Food Standards Agency (“FSA”) reports the following Meat-Free Mince are subject to recall:

  • What’s Cooking? brand Frozen Meat-Free Mince, sold in 454 gram (one pound) packages; all best-before dates of this Mince are affected by this recall. This Mince was sold by Lidl UK Stores.
  • Meet The Alternative brand Beef Style Mince, sold in 500 gram packages; affected best-before dates: January 2018, February 2018 and April 2018. This Mince was sold by Waitrose.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, EANs or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the food’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Meat-Free Mince can be found on the Web site above.

According to the FSA, both of the above-identified Mince products may contain pieces of blue plastic fragments. If swallowed, this could create choking, ingestion and GI tract laceration damage.

If plastic or metal fragments are ingested, they could cut the mouth, stomach or other parts of the GI tract, cause intestinal perforation or serious infection and possibly require surgical intervention for their safe removal.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household rubbish, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Meat-Free Mince products, please do not consume they directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
