Among the 23 recalls the European Union has announced in its first report of June 2017, the following notification was made:

WLtoys branded 4WD Cross-Country Remote Control ("RC") Toy CarsWLtoys branded 4WD Cross-Country “Challenge the Limit” Remote Control (“RC”) Toy Cars. The recalled Toy Cars were sold with a model number of 12428, an unknown batch/lot number and an unlisted UPC, EAN or barcode.

The type of hazards presented by this Remote Control Car Toy include Carcinogenic chemicals used in the production of the Car’s tires (tyres) and consequential risks of delayed cellular injury and/or mutation, both serious health hazards. Specifically, the tyres of the Toy Car contain Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (“PAHs”) in concentrations of up to 75 mg/kg. These PAHs are Carcinogenic: a child could be exposed to them if the tyres come into direct and prolonged or repetitive contact with the skin or the mouth.

Because of this defect, the recalled Remote Control (“RC”) Toy Cars fail to pass the EU’s REACH Regulations due to the fact these Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons are prohibited in toys, including activity toys and childcare articles.

As such, these Toy Cars do not comply with the health and safety requirements of the relevant European standard and have been ordered recalled from end users and withdrawn from the European marketplace.
