The US Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) reports the following Fresh Spinach are subject to this recall:

  • Peak brand Fresh Curly Leaf Spinach, sold in 10-ounce cello bags with a best-if-used-by date of 05/11/17 and a UPC of 0-78951-50002-3
  • Peak brand Fresh Curly Leaf Spinach, sold in 2.5-pound cello bags with an orange-colored sticker dated 05/13/17 and a case label pack date of 05/01/17
  • Harris Teeter Farmer’s Market brand Ready-To-Eat Leaf Spinach, sold in 10-ounce cello bags with a best-if-used-by date of 05/11/17 and a UPC of 0-78951-50002-3

According to the FDA, The Horton Fruit Co., Inc. (“Horton”) has recalled select bags and containers of Fresh Spinach because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The company was alerted to the potential of contamination by their supplier partners, and conducting a subsequent internal investigation.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Fresh Spinach, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the Spinach to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
