Canada/Ottawa: Fresh Longan Fruit Recall [Canada]Canada Herb recalls certain batch/lots of Fresh Longan Fruit due to undeclared Sulphites (Sulfites), a known allergen, source of dietary intolerance and possible trigger of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Fresh Fruit is subject to this recall:

  • Fresh Longan Fruit, sold unbranded in yellow plastic web bags of variable weights

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CFIA, Canada Herb has recalled certain batch/lots of Fresh Longan Fruits from the marketplace because they may contain Sulphites, an ingredient not declared on the label. People with an allergy to Sulphites should not consume the recalled Fruit listed above.

The affected Fresh Fruit was sold in bulk or packed by the retail store locations in Ontario during the time periods shown below.

  • Bai Chang, 300 Spadina Ave., Toronto, Ontario, sold from April 6 to May 8, 2017

  • Feng Tai, 5221 Hwy 7, S. 100-600, Markham, Ontario, sold from April 6 to May 8, 2017
  • Grand Fortune, 4390 Steeles Ave. E. B1, Markham, Ontario, sold from April 6 to May 8, 2017
  • Hue Thanh, 293 Spadina Ave., Toronto, Ontario, sold from April 6 to May 8, 2017
  • Kien Hung, 1989 Finch Ave., North York, Ontario, sold from April 6 to May 8, 2017
  • Oriental, 310 Spadina Ave., Toronto, Ontario, sold from April 6 to May 8, 2017
  • Sunny, 747 Don Mill Road, #60, North York, Ontario, sold from April 6 to May 8, 2017
  • T & T, 715 Central Parkway West, Mississauga, Ontario, sold from April 6 to May 8, 2017

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Fresh Fruit and could be allergic to their Sulphite ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
