Canada/Ottawa: Safeway Canada recalls certain batch/lots of Safeway branded Baked Goods due to undeclared Eggs and Milk, both known allergens, sources of dietary intolerance and possible triggers of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Baked Goods are subject to this recall:
- Safeway brand Cheese Buns, sold in 500 gram packages; affected batch/lot product codes: all codes where Egg is not declared on the label; UPC starts with 217698
- Safeway brand Dutch Crunch Bread, sold in 600 gram packages; affected batch/lot product codes: all codes that contain Milk but do not declare this ingredient on the product label; UPC starts with 257600; please note: the affected Dutch Crunch Bread product was reportedly sold only from Safeway Canada stores in the Winnipeg, Manitoba area.
- Safeway brand Pizza Cheese Buns, sold in 600 gram packages; affected batch/lot product codes: all codes where Egg is not declared on the label; UPC starts with 268815
According to the CFIA, this recall was initiated after it was suspected the above identified Safeway Canada branded Baked Goods contained Egg or Milk, ingredients not declared on their respective product labels.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of these recalled Baked Goods and could be allergic to their Egg and/or Milk ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
