Canada/Ottawa: Farouk Systems Inc. recalls an estimated 680 boxed tubes of CHI Tea Tree Blow Dry Primer Lotion due to excessive levels of Methylisothiazolinone (“MI”) and consequential risk of allergic reaction and skin irritation, both serious health hazards. HCSC: http://ht.ly/j0P630b0P6Z
Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following Lotions are subject to this recall:
- CHI brand Tea Tree Blow Dry Primer Lotion, a moisturizing hair lotion sold as a hair care product and packaged in 177 mL tubes with a UPC/barcode of 633911762950.
Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s packaging, design and retail presentation.
According to Health Canada, its sampling and evaluation program has determined the recalled Lotion contains the preservative Methylisothiazolinone (“MI”) at a concentration exceeding the current limit set out by Health Canada. MI is a strong sensitizer that may pose a significant risk of inducing allergic reactions and/or skin irritation in the user.
As of March 30 2017, Farouk Systems had not received any reports of consumer incidents or injuries related to the use of this product.
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any tubes of the recalled CHI Tea Tree Blow Dry Primer Lotion, please do not use them. Instead, kindly return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm product contamination or excessive chemical concentrations. If in doubt about the safety of any product, return it to your retailer for refund and proper disposal according to local municipal waste regulations.
