Canada/Ottawa: Wismettac Japanese Rice Cake Recall [Canada]Wismettac Asian Foods recalls certain batch/lots of Japanese Rice Cakes due to undeclared Soy and Wheat, both known allergens, sources of dietary intolerance and possible triggers of Anaphylaxis, a serious and potential fatal situation, requiring immediate medical intervention. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (“CFIA”) reports the following Rice Cakes are subject to this recall:

  • Japanese Rice Cakes (Kashiwa Mochi Sk Br.) Sweets Kashiwa Mochi 5pc Yoshikawa F, item number: #70824, package code: 3/ 10/ 250 G; and sold with two UPCs: front: 4 903226 102106 and back: 0 74410 70824 5

According to the CFIA, this recall was initiated after it was suspected the product label did not declare Soy and Wheat, two known allergens.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession these recalled Rice Cakes and could be allergic to their Soy and/or Wheat ingredients, have a close family member who is allergic or has previously experienced Anaphylaxis or are unsure of your allergy status, please do not consume them directly nor use them as an ingredient in another dish or preparation. Instead, return the product to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

==> Never depend on your senses of sight, smell, taste or touch to confirm food poisoning, adulteration or contamination. If in doubt about the safety of any food, return it to your retailer for refund or toss it out in your household garbage, making sure neither small children nor household pets can access the suspect food.
