US/Washington: John Deere recalls an estimated 8,500 Gator Utility Vehicles due to suspected component detachment, consequential inability to slow and/or stop the vehicle and resultant crash and injury hazards. CPSC: http://ht.ly/ZubJ30aTuEi
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves certain John Deere Gator Utility Vehicles sold under model number XUV590i or XUV590i S4, designations printed on the hood and the “John Deere” and “Gator” brand names printed on the cargo box.
- Serial numbers, located on the frame on the rear of each Gator Vehicle above the hitch, begin with the code, “1M0590” and fall within the ranges on the chart below. The recalled Gator Utility Vehicles come in several colors and have four-wheel suspension with side-by-side seating for two or four people depending on model.
- Gator Utility Vehicles, model number XUV590i, serial number range: 1M0590T+++M010001 to 20742
- Gator Utility Vehicles, model number XUV590i S4, serial number range: 1M0590F+++M010001 to 20277
Please consult the photograph above for details of the Gator Utility Vehicle’s design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled vehicle can be found on the Web site above.
According to the CPSC, the dust boot on the throttle cable can come loose, resulting in the Gator Vehicle not slowing down and/or stopping when the operator attempts these maneuvers. This, in turn, poses crash and injury hazards to the operator, any riders on-board the vehicle and those nearby. John Deere has received two (2) reports of the dust boot on the throttle cable coming loose. As of press time, no injuries had been reported.
If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Utility Vehicles, please do not use them. Instead, contact an authorized John Deere dealer for a free repair. The company is also contacting all registered owners of the recalled vehicles directly.
