Canada/Ottawa: PureCare Herbal Cream Recall [Canada]Health Canada recalls all batch/lots of PureCare Herbal Cream due to the presence of an undeclared prescription Steroid (Clobetasol Propionate) and another medicinal ingredient (Phenoxylethanol) and consequential adverse health effects ranging from skin irritation and dehydration to increased blood pressure., all serious health hazards. Health Canada/Santé Canada (“HCSC”) reports the following Skin Cream is subject to this recall:

  • PureCare Herbal Cream, sold online at http://www.purecareskin.com and through an in-person distribution network. The Skin Cream has been sold with two (2) different labels with the current label stating the product is “FOR EXTREMELY DRY SKIN” and the previous label states it is an “Herbal Cream for Eczema, Psoriasis & Dry Skin.” The product was imported by PureCare Herbal Cream Ltd.

Please consult the photograph above for details of the product’s packaging, design and retail presentation. One (1) additional image of the recalled Skin Cream is pictured on the Web site above.

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to Health Canada, you should stop using this Skin Cream immediately and seek medical attention if you have used this product and have health concerns. As a reminder, never use a drug, cream or other health care product before or during pregnancy or during lactation without a doctor’s knowledge and approval.

Clobetasol Propionate is a super-high potency topical steroidal prescription drug used to treat inflammatory conditions and should be used only under the supervision of a licensed and qualified health care professional. Side effects of Clobetasol Propionate include skin irritation, weakening or degeneration. Topical corticosteroids can be absorbed in sufficient amounts to produce adverse effects, including irregular heartbeat, increased blood pressure, stomach ulcer, increased blood sugar, blood disorders, skin, muscle and bone damage and nervous system disorders.

Phenoxylethanol can pose serious health risks if ingested – for example, by infants during nursing if the mother has applied the product to help soothe and heal dry or cracked nipples. If ingested, phenoxyethanol can cause difficulty breathing, vomiting and diarrhea. Vomiting and diarrhea can lead to dehydration.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled Skin Cream, please do not use it. Instead, kindly return the product to the outlet where you purchased it for a full refund or take it to a pharmacist for safe disposal.

Please note: disposal of this product must be in accordance with local municipal hazardous waste requirements to protect your personal safety, the local drinking water supply and the ecosystem. Do not throw out the Skin Cream into your household trash. Instead, return the product to a pharmacist for proper disposal,
