Polaris Sportsman 850 & 1000 ATV Recall [US]

US/Washington: Polaris recalls an estimated 19,200 Sportsman 850 and Sportsman 1000 All-Terrain Vehicles due to suspected risk of component melting and consequential fire and burn hazard. CPSC: http://ht.ly/iZro30acR4P

Additional information:
The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (“CPSC”) reports this recall involves all model year 2015 and 2016 Polaris Sportsman 850 and 1000 model All-Terrain Vehicles (“ATVs”).

The brand, “Polaris” is printed on the front grill and the model, “Sportsman 850” or “Sportsman 1000” is printed on the side of the steering column. The ATVs were sold in several colors. The model number is located on the fuel tank cover. The following Sportsman ATV models are included in the recall (in alphabetical order):

==> No barcodes, UPCs, item numbers or other identification numbers were listed with this recall notification.

According to the CPSC, the right side panel heat shield of the recalled ATVs can melt, posing burn and fire hazards to riders. In addition, in 2015 Sportsman 1000 ATVs, the exhaust springs can stretch and damage the exhaust seal, which can result in exhaust leaks and pose burn and fire hazards. Polaris has received at least 793 incidents, including reports of warped, melted or burned side panels, 47 fires and four (4) minor burn injuries.

If you believe you have purchased or have in your possession any of the recalled All-Terrain Vehicles, please do not use them. Instead, kindly contact Polaris to schedule a free repair. Polaris is also contacting all registered purchasers directly.
